Land Acknowledgement
Odla Studio is located in Calgary, in the heart of Southern Alberta, on the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7: the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations; the Tsuut’ina First Nation; and the Stoney Nakoda, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations. This is also home to the Métis Nation within Alberta, including Districts 5 and 6.
I am grateful to work and live on this land, northwest of where the Bow and Elbow Rivers meet, a place traditionally known as Moh’kins’tsis to the Blackfoot, Wîchîspa to the Stoney Nakoda, and Guts’ists’i to the Tsuut’ina.
As a visitor here, I have a responsibility to keep learning about the people, histories, and relationships that shaped this place long before I arrived. I am committed to deepening my understanding of the Indigenous communities whose lands I benefit from, and to continuing to examine what responsibility, reciprocity and respect look like in the way I live and work.
I come to this place with deep respect and gratitude for the land and for the people who have cared for it, lived here and continue to call it home.
